This brand-new climate research tool helps you to understand the local environment surrounding your project before you start modelling in 3D. Intuitive sun path diagrams show you the areas of your site that need to be shielded from overheating sun. And it doesn't just flag the issues; PreDesign suggests effective glazing, shading, and top-lighting strategies for each face of your building. PreDesign improves design outcomes - projects will be better informed, and designers will have more information to influence preliminary solutions.
Improved Tag Management
Complex models involve managing long lists of tags and scenes. SketchUp 2021 makes this much easier with the inclusion of Tag Folders and Tag Filtering. Tag Folder mean you can organize, and catalog tags based on attributes, building levels, or design options. This feature is also available in LayOut. Tag Filtering makes it a lot easier to search for tags in your model and quickly control individual tag visibility, make tag-based selections in the modelling window, or edit tag properties and styling.
There's a new type of configurable object for SketchUp 2021: Live Components. A successful model is one that can easily accommodate iterations and allow for rapid change so let Live Components do some of the heavy lifting for you. Customize dimensions and sizes for repeated object use; quickly add rich context and adjust in real-time to produce more detailed designs in less time; or rapidly iterate large sets of components all at once as project requirements change. Live Components can be found in 3D Warehouse and are available for you to download and configure right in SketchUp with SketchUp's latest version.
A fun fact: Live Components is the first feature to be released under a new program called 'SketchUp Labs'. SketchUp Labs represents a new initiative to incorporate user community feedback into future product development processes of SketchUp - a sneak peek into the future of SketchUp. Join the forums for discussions on the future direction of Live Components or provide feedback if you encounter issues.
There's a reason SketchUp is synonymous with intuitive and user-friendly 3D design software: SketchUp doesn't sacrifice usability for functionality.?Start drawing lines and shapes.?Push and pull surfaces to turn them into 3D shapes.?Stretch, copy, rotate and paint to create anything you want.
The easiest way to draw in 3D
LayOut is an extra application that comes with SketchUp Pro allowing you to create professional presentations of your SketchUp Pro models in an instant.?With LayOut you can place SketchUp Pro models in multiple views on a template and provide graphic elements such as titles, arrows, dimensions, logos and photos for printing or screen presentations.?LayOut brings the "feel" of SketchUp into 2D space in an incomparably beautiful way.
3D Warehouse contains millions of models created in SketchUp that you can import straight into your own model. Need an oven for the kitchen you're designing? A car for your driveway? A rhino for your zoo? Find it all in 3D Warehouse, the world's biggest library of free 3D models. You can also find a model from a trusted manufacturer. With manufacturer partners like Herman Miller, Formica, Thermador and many others, 3D Warehouse is the best place to find a model of a specific, real-world object. Now when you specify an oven for a kitchen, you can be sure you're working with accurate geometry, not to mention beautiful models.
SketchUp Pro opens up to a whole new world of game changing extensions - from photo-realistic rendering software such as V-Ray, Enscape, and SU Podium to general industry productivity plug-ins like Dibac, Profile Builder and PlaceMaker. All of which can help save you hours of work and supercharge your design projects.
StyleBuilder is an extra application that comes with SketchUp Pro that allows you to create your own sketchy-edge style. Use your favourite pen, pencil or marker and scan the lines.?StyleBuilder will then convert these lines back to SketchUp lines, creating your own unique style.
Because your SketchUp models may reside in different places, the SketchUp MobileViewer allows you to access your models from?3D Warehouse,?Trimble Connect, and?Dropbox. The free mobile app gives you the ability to open SketchUp models on your phone that are attached to email messages, directly from your mail app.

What is SketchUp Style Builder?
Style Builder is part of the SketchUp Pro subscription package. Style Builder allows you to create your own 'sketchy' edge style from lines you have drawn yourself - whether that's on paper, or via a digital image editing program.
The Style Builder interface includes these features:
Menu bar: Create or open files and generate templates for drawing your own strokes. The menu bar also has options for loading stroke libraries, setting preferences, and changing the model you see in the Preview pane.
Strokes tab: Import stroke libraries from a template, folder, or other style into the Strokes tab. You can import several stroke libraries onto this tab.
Settings tab: Set global options for your strokes, such as how the strokes fade and what effects apply to the strokes. The Settings tab is also where you name a style.
Sets pane: Drag and drop strokes from your stroke libraries into the Sets pane. Each style typically has 3-5 sets of strokes, where each set is a different stroke length. Each set typically has at least 3 strokes so that your drawn images vary a bit, making the style look hand-drawn when applied to a SketchUp model. You can adjust a few options for the strokes in the Sets pane using the drop-down lists at the top of the pane.
Preview pane: At first the model preview looks blurry, but as you add strokes to the Sets pane, you see a preview of your style in the Preview pane. You can use the tools at the top of the Preview pane to orbit, pan, zoom, and toggle shadows when you change the model that appears in the preview.
Managing a Style Builder Workflow
SketchUp LayOut Style Builder lets you put your own personal stamp on a project so let's look at a simple workflow using it:
- Open a new or existing Style Builder file.
- Draw the strokes you want for your sketchy edge style either by hand and then scan or in a template you generated already.
- Import the strokes you want to use. They will appear as a stroke library on the Strokes tab.
- Drag and drop strokes from a stroke library to the slots for their corresponding length. You can make any adjustments on the Sets pane.
- Select how you want strokes to fade, the colour, and the edge effects using the Settings tab. Don't forget to give your style a name!
- Once you're happy with your sketchy style, save the .style file.
- In SketchUp, you can use the Mix tab to insert your sketchy edge style to your SketchUp model.
What is SketchUp Layout
LayOut takes your 3D model into 2D space; it's the tool for creating documentation from your SketchUp model as a 3D to 2D converter. You start in SketchUp, draw your project and create scenes to show the different views. then you can send the file to LayOut, add dimensions, labels, other text, photos, or whatever else you need to help communicate your project.
Model and Document
When you're working with multiple SketchUp model viewports in Layout, you can add corresponding scenes in your SketchUp model. So, if there's a particular camera angle you want to use in LayOut, it'll save you time in the long run to open the model in SketchUp and create a scene with the view you want.
Follow these steps to associate a scene you've created in SketchUp with a model viewport in an existing LayOut file.
Make beautiful drawings
LayOut brings the "feel" of SketchUp 2D drawings into 2D space in an incomparably beautiful way. Line work, shadows, textures, text, dimensions, title blocks: all exactly the way you want. Annotations allow both you and the client to communicate confidently to push the project forwards,
Intuitive vector drawings
LayOut's drawing tools are just like SketchUp's: simple, smart, and fun. And everything you draw is vector smart so you have infinite resolution and smooth crisp lines. Scaling and rotating can be done with the utmost precision
Dimension, detail, explain
Use dimensioning tools that snap to the edges of SketchUp models and quickly set the format, scale, and precision of displayed measurements.
